Transform Your Smile with Porcelain Veneers

cosmetic dentistry TulsaSome of us are blessed with a beautiful smile and gorgeous teeth. However, if you suffer from chipped enamel, broken and/or uneven teeth, unwanted gaps between teeth, or deeply stained dentition, there is one form of cosmetic dentistry that can resolve a number of these maladies … porcelain veneers. A consultation with your dentist will demonstrate how you can enjoy a beautiful smile in a matter of weeks.

Porcelain Veneers Process

Veneers are wafer thin shells that are made to be bonded to the front of teeth requiring repair. They can be affixed to one or multiple teeth.

On the first day of treatment, a thin amount of enamel will be removed from the front of teeth to receive veneers. Removing enamel about the thickness of the veneer itself will allow a symmetrical and natural appearance once the veneers are in place.

Once enamel is removed, impressions will be taken for the lab to fabricate the veneers. Temporaries will be placed to protect teeth.

At your next appointment, temporaries will be removed and veneers will be tried on for fit and appearance. Small adjustments can be made at this time, if needed. When fitted correctly, teeth will be treated to roughen the surface for maximum adherence. Cement will be used to bond the veneer to the tooth; a laser or curing light will be applied to speed up the drying process.

Any excess cement will be removed, and the smile makeover is complete. It is important to note that porcelain is naturally stain resistant which also means it is not affected by teeth whiteners. If teeth whitening is to be considered, it should be completed first so veneers can be color matched to your newly whitened shade.

Caring for Teeth Treated with Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are a permanent solution, so if damaged, broken, or dislodged, they are not repairable. They must be replaced. If you are a nail biter or have used your teeth in the past to open packages, now is the time to abandon those habits. Patients known to grind their teeth will likely be fitted with a night guard to protect veneers.

Otherwise, daily brushing and flossing coupled with twice yearly visits with our team at Howl Dental for cleaning and an exam should allow you to enjoy your new smile makeover for many years to come.
